About me,
Hello! My name is Mariah Whelan, and I am excited to share a bit about myself with you!
I believe that understanding who we are is essential not only for personal growth but also for connecting with others. In this section, I will delve into various aspects of my life, including my background, interests, and aspirations.
I was born and raised in Manchester, Wythenshawe a place that has significantly shaped my identity and values. Growing up, I was surrounded by a diverse community that fostered my curiosity and encouraged me to explore different perspectives.
My family has always been a source of inspiration for me; they instilled in me the importance of education, hard work, and compassion for others. They have always supported me in my creatvie aspirations and helped pay for acting class when i was young.
I have a very special place in my heart for Acting as i was a painfully shy child growing up,
my mum practically forced me to order from the chippy shop as you can imagine i hated it!
but as time went on using techniques from acting i became more condfident and didnt have to rehearse the order in my head 20 times for fear of getting it wrong and dying of 'Embarrasment!'
from then on i benefited attending workshops, improving in social situations.
I was also always playing dress up, and took the games of house very seriously!
All jokes aside; acting reallly helped me process complex emotions and feelings aswell as giving me the ability to connect with others.
Why take the risk in a creative job rather than academic?
Well, i was always creating when i was young and still to this day i write, draw and paint.
I wasn't great at school academia, suffering with dyslexia made it difficult. i would often second guess myself. so i focused more on creating. and playing around with characters, making up dynamic stories for my figurines and most of all it made me joyful.
Acting still is a big source of joy for me, as well as escapism from the mundane.
I was also told i should consider being an actor, i made it my misson to learn the craft after being inspired by the movie Split- staring James Mcavoy. he was just brilliant!
I would really liked to do a role similar to that!
so i took the leap!
I joined a college in Manchester called Sheena Simon, there i leant more about the craft and different practitioners like stanaslavki - Yeah thats right Stan the man..
I fell in love with naturalism, gaining a deeper understadning of natralistic acting on Stage/TV. i studied there for three years.
After this we were told about drama schools, and to maybe start thinking about trying to get into one. as a creator i was extreamly dedicated and also had an agent at the time so as you can imagine i was in london, going back and froth attending auditions.
there would be times where i would get recalled or even pencilled in but unfortunately
didn't manage to book the job.
I dedcided from then on i need to move to london so i'm easily able to travel to each auditon without a big train fare, so i began looking into drama schools figuring out what moduels i was curious about and wanted to learn .
Then covid happened..
so we were all stuck inside, i took a few gap years as you can imagine rejection, after rejection in drama schools i finally applied for Alra.
I GOT IN!
This was so exciting, i was like a fart in a bottel.
Unable to contain the excitement, i secured my place. i was then told i'd need to save up four grand to fund the rest of my tuition fee as the goverment had a cap on student finance at the time.
so i took another gap year and started a go fund me page.
Again i wasn't from a high income house hold so i had to do alot of work.
when i finally was ready to begin my studies.. the school got liquidated.
i know how fustrating..
so i auditoned for St marys univeristy in Twickenham and i got in!
I pursued my education at St marys university where received a Diploma in BA- Acting.
This academic journey was not at alll easy, in-fact it challenged me in more ways then i could imagine on this course it also taught me how to be vulnerable.
How humanity makes the Actor Magnetic; i also learned new skills along the way and worked with so many talented individuals. However this course wasnt just about acquiring knowledge; it was also about discovering my passions and honing my skills.
During my time in university, I had the opportunity to participate in a professional theatre company production with Cellar door theatre. with this company i made my first debut with (How to date a feminist by Samantha Elllis.) playing the lead Kate.
we secured a venue at the New Wimbledon Theatre it was a huge success!!

reviewers were in and we were given four out of five stars!
"Hilarious, original and life affirming a gem. fresh writing, beautiful performances.
and brilliant direction whats not to like."

"Hilarious & moving in equal measure"
"The two lead actors showing outstanding chemistry to really grab the audience from the opening moments thanks to the funny dialogue and engaging performances that we are swept up in the story almost instantly- as well as the comedic and witty writing style being occasionally trumped by some truly powerful dramatic moments"

Outside of my professional and academic pursuits, I have a wide range of interests that
keep me engaged and motivated. I am particularly passionate about Art and painting as well as documenting my life in scrapbook form. which allow's me to express my creativity and explore new mediums of Art.
Whether it's film and tv or threatre - I find joy in immersing myself in the world of characters and engaging storys Additionally, I love socialising, wrighting, and learning new methods of Acting technique, which broadens my horizons and enhances my understanding of the Industry
Professional Aspirations As I look towards the future, I am eager to pursue a career in Acting

I am also a freelance Model. I am driven by a desire to make a positive impact in my community and beyond.

I believe that my skills in theatre and screen will enable me to contribute meaningfully to my life and other organistions .like charitys ect.
I am committed to continuous learning and personal development, and I actively seek opportunities to grow both professionally and personally.
In summary, my journey has been shaped by my experiences, interests, and aspirations. I am passionate about The industry and would love to connect with like minded individuals as well as casting dirctors.
I am excited so about the possibilities that lie ahead. I look forward to connecting with others who share similar passions and values, and I am always open to new experiences that can help me grow and learn.
